Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering
The Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is an inter-institutional program between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Through this dynamic partnership, our department has grown into the second largest undergraduate BME program in the US. With a recent $20M endowment from Ross W. Lampe Jr., our department is a leader in uniting engineering and medicine to improve lives. Graduate students in our program have access to resources and research collaborations with the UNC School of Medicine and College of Arts and Science, and NC State College of Engineering, joining distinctive and world-class organizations. The Lampe Joint Department provides students full standing across each university, providing vital support to translate academic research into the marketplace. Our department is home to over 50 primary faculty members whose research expenditures exceed $26 million. Students and faculty focus on five major research areas in facilities totaling over 65,000 square feet: biomedical imaging, biomedical microdevices, pharmacoengineering, regenerative medicine and rehabilitation engineering.
