Lei SUN, Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Science and Technology of China and his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. He then conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Southern California. And joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2008. His research interests include understanding the underlying mechanisms and possible translational strategies of using ultrasound to modulate cellular activities, such as neuromodulation or immunotherapy, investigating the potentials of ultrasound bio-effects for cancer therapy and diabetes, and multimodality molecular imaging and theranostics.

Prof. Lei SUN has 25 years of research and development experience in medical ultrasound technology, including system development, signal/image processing and biomedical applications. He has over 10 US/Chinese patents granted/filed. As a Principal Investigator, he has led research projects in Hong Kong and Mainland China, with a total funding of over HK$76 million. He is a Senior Research Scholar of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, director of research center of Non-invasive Brain Computer Interface, Deputy Director of the Centralized Animal Facility, member of the University Council, member of Personnel Committee and Research Committee of the Faculty of Engineering. He is the general chair of the Focused Ultrasound Neuromodulation 2025 (FUN25), has hosted scientific sessions at various conferences, and has won several Best Paper/Poster Awards.
